A secure OTP implementation requires more than sending a message. Generate unpredictable codes, use short expiration times, limit resend frequency, restrict verification attempts and never log plaintext OTP values in production systems.

Your backend should also protect API credentials and apply abuse controls to prevent automated requests from generating unnecessary SMS traffic.

Sender ID and regulatory requirements

OTP and transactional messaging may be subject to sender-ID, content and telecom requirements. Use an approved sender identity where required and separate verification traffic from promotional campaigns when your routing or compliance requirements call for it.
